How it works

It starts with proximity, not profiles.

Rome is designed to help you reconnect with people you encounter in real life, not people you discover on a map or in a feed.

When discovery is active, your device exchanges temporary, rotating identifiers with others nearby. These identifiers cannot be linked back to you or used to reconstruct your location history. You remain anonymous until, and only if, you decide to connect.

By focusing on brief, real-world encounters, we turn missed opportunities into meaningful connections, all without compromising your digital safety.

Two ways to connect

Subtle and secure

Passive Matching

Not every moment is the right moment to act. Passive matching gives you a second chance to reach out after the moment has passed.

Review encounters later and express interest privately. If the feeling is mutual, the connection is revealed, allowing you to pick up where you left off.

Winks

Sometimes, the moment is now. Winks are short-lived, real-time signals of interest for those nearby.

A wink is a subtle indication of interest that only matters if it's reciprocated. It empowers you to approach people with confidence, knowing that interest is shared.
